Berchtesgaden National Park offers several distinct ways to experience the outdoors, from a gentle boat ride to a proper alpine hike. Scenic trails, clear lakes, and wildlife encounters are all within reach.
The park suits a range of paces and interests, and the three activities below show how much variety it holds in one place.
Boat Ride Across Königssee
Riding a boat across Königssee lets visitors enjoy calm waters and stunning mountain views, such as this one:
The electric boats are quiet, helping keep the lake peaceful.
The trip stops at spots like St. Bartholomew's Church, a pretty landmark with red domes. Passengers can relax and take photos during the short breaks.
Visitors should bring a jacket because it can get chilly on the water, even in summer. The ride lasts about 30 minutes one way.
Hike to Wimbachklamm Gorge
Wimbachklamm Gorge is a popular spot in Berchtesgaden National Park. It features a short, easy hike with wooden walkways along roaring waterfalls and clear pools.
The trail is about 2 kilometers round trip. It’s family-friendly and offers great photo opportunities.
What to expect:
- Flowing water through narrow rock walls
- Bridges and tunnels along the path
- Refreshing cool air from the gorge’s shade
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since some parts can be slippery. The hike is best enjoyed in spring and summer when water levels are highest.
